Dear yogi friends and family,
International yoga day falls on the summer solstice on 21 June when there is the most sunlight to highlight the spiritual and physical power of yoga.
The purpose of international yoga day is to increase public awareness of yoga’s all encompassing approach to wellness. It promotes physical, mental and spiritual harmony and emphasises the need for balance in our fast-paced modern lives. Yoga promotes stress reduction, awareness of self and general health and vigour.
The theme for this year’s international day of yoga is “Visudhaiva Kutumbakam” which is a Sanskrit phrase meaning “The world is one family.” This invokes a sense of unity and indicates the importance of collective well being and overall humanity and oneness.
The logo represents the spiritual structure of the universe, the 5 elements: Earth, water, Fire, Air and Ether (space.)
Earth; Our base needs, our foundation and how we stand on this earth. Water; Creativity, passion for life, flexibility and flow Fire; Willpower, personal power, transformation and our gut feeling Air; Communication, knowledge, perception and strategy Ether; The place where everything happens in its most subtle form.
The five elements are the key to our spiritual growth and enlightenment.
“Yoga is not about touching your toes, it’s about what you learn on the way down.” – Jigar Gor
Warmest Namaste
