Happy National Yoga month!

Aum Yogis, I hope you have all had a great summer and are looking forward to returning back to your mats. I am looking forward to seeing you all. I came back last Sunday, to summarise my trip – actually, not summarise as much as savour the transformations that made up its content. I spent nearly a month in a small town on monument beach with nothing to do, nowhere to go, with the added bonus of staying off the radar, and that luxury was my abundance and so I embraced that abundance. There is a lot to be said for living a simple life with fewer distractions/interruptions. I call it active meditation and I hope you can try it some time! The month of September is the Official National Yoga month designated by the department of health and human services. There will be a lot of observance and awareness campaigns held this month across the country to educate and motivate and inspire people to take up this ancient practice for a healthy and more balanced life style. Celebrate National Yoga Month by bringing a guest free of charge ( one time only ) during the month of September. I would also like to remind you that classes will resume this week – St Mary’s, Thursday 03 Sep ( Hatha Yoga ) & Market Square, Monday 07 Sep ( Vinyasa Yoga ). Private lessons will resume from next Tuesday 08 Sep. Until then, Om Shanti. x

Embracing Abundance

opening up to abundance isn’t a pursuit; It’s a state of mind. Abundance is not defined by how much a person has, but by how aware a person is of how much he or she already has.

Yogi update.

Namaste yogis, I’m amazed to realise we’re coming to the end of another term. There are 2 more sessions at St Mary’s and 4 more at market Square. The summer break at St Mary’s ( no classes ) will be from 23 July – 03 Sep & Market Square ( no classes ) from 03 August – 07 September. I would like to say how privileged I am to see so many of you incorporate traditional yoga practices into your modern lifestyle without losing sight of the ancient, universal goal of liberation and believing that the ancient teachings and techniques of yoga are as valid and exciting today as they were over five thousand years ago. Keep up the good work. 🙂 I would also like to welcome new yogis who have joined the Monday evening class at Market Square. I realise some of you are finding the lessons physically challenging — let me say that challenging your preconceptions about your abilities helps you push beyond the limitations imposed by your mind. The practices should be difficult enough to bring up resistances, when these resistances are brought to light and observed with a detached mind, they are more easily shed. I do appreciate your feedback, please keep it coming. I’m going to leave you with a text from a book I’m reading by Sharon Gannon and David Life – The founders of Jivamukti Yoga. It’s about true happiness and I hope it gives you ” food for thought” … Most of us tend to identify with our problems. We identify with the struggles of the ego-personality, which has been convinced that happiness can be obtained from external sources. Yoga practices shift our identity away from the ego-personality and it’s struggles so that we can begin to reconnect with the essential nature of our being, which is bliss. We begin to understand that lasting happiness is inside us. We become independent: dependent inward. Have a great summer.

PRACTICE, DISCERNMENT, AND SURRENDER

Aum Yogis, The ancient teachings we’ve inherited were developed through the enlightened observation of life in all it’s forms and expressions. The skilful observation of humans gave rise to the possibility of yoga practice classically formulated by Patanjali and restated by Reinhold Niebuhr in his famous serenity prayer. Within this practice we orient our attitudes toward the discernment to distinguish the things we can change from the things we cannot change.

Just a reminder that classes will resume next Thursday 04 June at St Mary’s and next Monday 08 June at Market Square. Looking forward to seeing you all.

Om Shanti

New Moon, Spring Equinox and Solar Eclipse

Dear Yogi friend , I hope this email finds you living fearlessly and limitlessly wherever you are in this present moment. I thought I would remind you of term dates which you will also find on my website. Monday evening class, Market Square – term ends on Monday 26 March – Summer term starts on Monday 13 April – Monday 13 July – no class on Monday 25 May & 01 June for half term. Thursday morning class, St Mary’s – term ends on Thursday 26 March – Summer term starts on Thursday 16 April – 16 July – no class on Thursday 28 May & 04 June. We are coming to the end of another term and you continue to inspire me with your commitment to your practice, your stories about how yoga is transforming your lives and your lovely emails. Thank you. I’m sure some of you are aware that we are heading towards the first major star event of the year this coming Friday 20 March. New Moon in the sensitive sign of Pisces, A Solar Eclipse and the Spring Equinox. This major event will raise up the frequencies – tremendous energy will be experienced during this transit. It is said that whatever is going on in your body and mind at this time will be amplified. This is the time to put all the great information we have, our education as well as inspiration to manifest the life of our dreams. I recommend that you start now. Warm embraces to you all and keep the abundance up. x

It’s Time To Let The Lion In You Roar!

Dear friends, There is a full moon tonight, when the Aquarius sun opposes the moon in Leo. The energy of the fun loving, spontaneous Leo summons us to break away from old ways of thinking and being. It is time to express ourselves, our authentic voice, let our uniqueness emerge while staying more open in our hearts. Remember……There is a lion somewhere in all of us! The associated Yoga poses for increasing self expression and communication are those that open and stretch the pit of the throat, such as, Plough Pose ( Halasana ), Fish Pose ( Matsyasana ), Lion pose ( Simhasana ), upward plank pose ( Purvottanasana ). The throat is where the thyroid gland is found, so it is closely connected with our metabolism, how our hormones work. When it is blocked, we may experience thyroid imbalances, neck problems, voice problems and throat complaints. This energy centre is all about power of words, the ability to communicate effectively. It is also a gateway that enables us to listen better to what other people have to communicate to us and to really hear them. Let me remind you that it is very important to direct this powerful energy tonight and tomorrow night with positive intentions. Shine your light bright tonight!

Cancer Full Moon on January 4th

Dear friends, The first Full Moon in 2015 symbolises illumination of that which is hidden within the subconscious. The emphasis is on unresolved past emotions and nostalgic memories.

The sign of cancer is a water element and highly empathetic which can make you feel trapped in the past, nurturing pain and what could have been, yet its cardinal mode is regarded as dynamic, initiatory, passionate energy that promotes action.

So take a closer look at what makes you emotionally insecure, then secure. Are you empowered or feeling powerless? What are you nurturing? So, my divine yogis, what about an emotional detox this new year!! Honour how you feel but don’t allow yourself to stay trapped in the near or distant past, don’t cling to what no longer serves your life’s purpose for false security. Nurture that which brings love and joy. Dare to let it go and see what else appears in its place.

On a different note, my website is finally live, thanks to Madelyn and her dedicated team at Grain, although there’s more information that needs to go up, but check it out for the new term dates and times. How abundant can abundance get?

Look forward to seeing you all next week. Shine on.

Autumn half term

Aum everyone,
I hope you’re feeling fantastic and sublime wherever you are in this moment.

I’m writing to confirm half term dates which I believe have caused some confusion this term and advise you of some changes!

Half term at St Mary’s will be on Thursday 23 & 30 Oct, back on the mats on Thursday 06 Nov. Half term at Market Hall, Old Amersham will be on Monday 03 & 10 Nov, back on the mats on Monday 17 Nov. This class is now being held at an earlier time of 7:30 pm instead of 8 pm.

Most of you already know that there will no longer be a session held at Coleshill Village Hall. This wasn’t an easy decision for me to make. We started at Coleshill in May 2011, well over 3 years of learning ways to align the body, silence the mind and spread the love. I sincerely hope that our work at Coleshill can help you bring more of yourself out into the world, It’s clearly a gift worth offering.

While on the subject of learning…Not only is learning the obvious way to gather the information that empowers choice and new options, it’s also one of the most powerful ways to maintain brain plasticity and vitality – The ultimate fountain of youth. As we Un-teach ourselves how we’ve learned to be adults, and re-learn how to be curious sponges like children, we recover the untainted exuberance that is joy.

I wish you a good half term week.

Shine on 🙂
