Dear Yogis
As we approach the November full moon—also the final supermoon of 2024—we’re invited to tap into a unique and potent lunar energy. Known as the Beaver Moon, this full moon is traditionally associated with preparing for the winter months ahead, just as beavers prepare their homes. Spiritually, this is a time for us to honor what we’ve accomplished, clear out what no longer serves us, and lay the foundation for a restful, introspective season.
Since this full moon is also a supermoon, the moon’s energy will be especially strong, influencing our emotional and energetic bodies. You may feel an increase in sensitivity, intuition, and a desire for grounding. It’s natural to experience heightened emotions during this time, as the full moon shines a light on things we may need to release to feel more balanced.
Let’s explore how we can align our practice to harness this lunar energy and nurture a sense of stability, grounding, and reflection as we close out the supermoon cycle.
The energy of a full moon often brings about a climax – a peak of insight, awareness and emotional intensity. Being a superman, this November moon will feel even more powerful, with its influence on our emotions amplified. It’s a great time to reflect on where you’re placing your energy and whether there’s anything you need to let go of to move forward.
As the year draws to a close, this moon reminds us to honor what we’ve accomplished, release the old, and focus inward. This lunar energy supports us in letting go of habits, thoughts, or patterns that no longer align with our growth. It’s a time to connect deeply with yourself and set intentions for what you want to cultivate as we enter winter—a season for renewal and introspection.
Yoga Poses to Honor the Full Moon’s Energy
To work with the grounding and reflective energy of this full moon, I encourage you to focus on poses that invite stability, calm, and openness. Here are a few asanas to help you harness and balance the lunar energy:
1. Child’s Pose (Balasana) – A deeply grounding pose that allows you to draw inward and center yourself. As you rest in Balasana, let each exhale release any tension or restlessness within.
2. Garland Pose (Malasana) – This hip-opening posture is perfect for releasing pent-up emotions and energy. Malasana encourages a connection to the earth, symbolizing the stability and grounding we seek during this time.
3. Seated Forward Fold (Paschimottanasana) – A calming, introspective pose that gently stretches the back body and promotes self-reflection. Allow your mind to be quiet and your energy to turn inward as you fold.
4. Bridge Pose (Setu Bandhasana) – A heart-opening pose that balances grounded energy with openness. Visualise releasing anything that no longer serves you as you press through your feet and lift your heart.
5. Supine Twist (Supta Matsyendrasana) – Twists are a beautiful way to let go of old patterns and bring fresh energy into the body. As you breathe deeply in this twist, imagine releasing any remaining tensions. 6. Corpse Pose (Savasana) – To end, rest in Savasana, allowing the energy of your practice to settle. Visualise the light of the full moon washing over you, bringing clarity and calm.
Wishing you a peaceful and grounding full moon. May you feel supported by the energy of the moon as you reflect, release and set intentions for the next chapter.
With love and light,
Sima
